1. Can the cottage be rented all year, or only during the summer?
The cottage at Rock Point is a 4-season structure. It is heated primarily with electric baseboards and a propane stove serves as back up (and is great for ‘atmosphere’). Even the bunkhouse can be used in the winter – it’s heated with its own portable heating unit. There’s a lot of great winter activies on the lake, around the property and in the region.
However, we’ve learned from experience that a 4×4 vehicle is a MUST during winter stays. (CAA has already been called twice this year!)
2. Are sheets and towels provided, or do I bring my own?
All guests must provide their own sheets, pillowcases, bath towels and dish towels. Pillows, duvets and extra blankets are included in the rental.
3. Is there anything else I need to remember to bring?
Yes, you will need to bring your own food, toiletries, toilet paper (single-ply, please!) and papertowels. If you forget anything, the town of Haliburton is only 10 minutes away. Also, while there is a selection of adult lifejackets on the premises, it is strongly recommended that you bring your own. There are no lifejackets suitable for children on the premises – you must bring these.
A word on food: please take what food you have not consumed with you upon departure. There is never a guarantee that someone will be at the cottage immediately after your stay. Leftover food, particularly spoiled food, can attract wild animals who will break into the cottage looking for a meal.
4. Can you drink the water from the tap?
While the cottage is equipped with a water filtration/UV system, it is recommended that you bring your own drinking water. There is a water cooler in the cottage and large water bottles for it are available at the local supermarkets in Haliburton.
5. Is there cell phone coverage?
Yes, there is full cell phone coverage. There is also a landline at the cottage with unlimited North American calling.
6. Are pets allowed?
One well-behaved dog is allowed, but this requires prior approval. Any damage to the cottage and its grounds will be covered under the Accidental Damage Waiver Plan part of your rental agreement which you will complete through our our rental agent (All-Season Cottage Rentals).
We, and many of our guests are allergic to cats, so these are not allowed.
7. What do we do with our garbage?
Cottage life is very different than life in the city and suburbs, particularly when it comes to garbage disposal – there’s no trash pick-up. At the cottage, animals, particularly racoons, bears and skunks, can be on high-alert for an easy meal and cottages are great targets. To avoid any unintended run-ins with the wildlife – and to protect their well-being – you are responsible for carrying out any trash you and your registered guests may have generated during your stay.
8. Who cleans the cottage?
It will be your responsibility to clean the cottage prior to your departure. Bio-friendly cleaning supplies are available onsite and a cleaning checklist is provided. The cottage must be left in the same condition as it was found.
9. Can we have guests?
Rock Point is meant to be shared. While dayguests are very welcomed, overnight guests must be pre-registered through our rental agent. This is primarily due to the capacity of the cottage’s septic system. Ours can handle no more than 8 guests at a time.
10. When can we check in and when must we leave?
Check in is no earlier than 4pm on the appointed day. Check out must occur by noon at the latest.
11. How private is the property?
While we find Rock Point to be a private experience, there are other cottages on the lake. Our neighbors are very friendly, but respectful of each other’s quiet enjoyment. Remember, we’re all here for the same reason… for some peaceful R&R.
(That said, just because it may not be someone’s idea of a ‘naked’ cottage – a midnight skinny dip is never out of the question!)
